A Promise To Protect By Patricia Bradley

From the Back Cover

In a steamy small town riddled with broken promises, one woman's secret could change everything.
Acting Sheriff Ben Logan hasn't heard from Leigh Somerall in a very long time, but it doesn't mean he can get her--or their whirlwind romance of ten years ago--out of his head. When she calls out of the blue, it is with a strange request to protect her brother, Tony. But all too soon, Ben is charged with a different task--protecting Leigh from the people after her brother. With Leigh doing everything in her power to avoid Ben, it's no easy task. And the secret she is keeping just may change their lives forever.

"A taut story of mistakes and betrayal, a mother's fierce love, revenge and danger--and the redeeming wonders of faith and love."-- Lorena McCourtney, author of the Cate Kinkaid Files and the Ivy Malone Mysteries

"Old secrets, second chances at love, and a skillfully crafted small-town suspense. You will fall in love with Ben and Leigh and cheer them on as they fight for their happy ending. I'm making room on my shelf for all of Patricia Bradley's novels!"-- Susan May Warren, bestselling and award-winning author of When I Fall in Love

My take:
A Promise To Protect By Patticia Bradley is the second book in the Logan Point series. I read it without reading the first book and I didn't feel confused or left out. This book certainly won't be on my list of favorites but I think it was a good book anyway. It was slow starting out, and it never really got any better reading on, it just never fully grab my attention, I thought the plot was slightly confusing and disappointing. But the characters were interesting and most of them were likable. I think most fans of the Christian romantic suspense Genre would like this book. I just wasn't in the mood for this one for some reason.
Favorite quote:
"You can second-guess yourself for the rest of your life, and it won't change anything. I don't think there's anything God needs to forgive you for, but if there is, he did a long time ago. Now it's simply a matter of you receiving his grace''.

A Bride In Store By Melissa Jagears

From the Back Cover

Impatient to meet her intended groom and help him grow his general store, mail-order bride Eliza Cantrell sets out on her travels a week early. But her plan goes sadly awry when her train is held up by robbers who steal her dowry and Axel, her groom-to-be, isn't even in town when she finally arrives.

Axel's business partner, William Stanton, has no head for business and would much rather be a doctor. When his friend's mail-order bride arrives in town with no money and no groom in sight, he feels responsible and lets her help around the store--where she quickly proves she's much more adept at business than he ever will be.

The sparks that fly between Will and Eliza as they work together in close quarters are hard to ignore, but Eliza is meant for Axel and a future with the store, while Will is biding his time until he can afford medical school. However, their troubles are far from over when Axel finally returns, and soon both Will and Eliza must decide what they're willing to sacrifice to chase their dreams--or if God has a new dream in store for them both.
My Take:
A Bride In Store is the first novel I have read by author Melissa Jeagers. Mabie it's because I didn't read the first book in this series, I don't know but this one looked so much better than it actually was. The story seemed long and overly complicated. Some parts were boring and I got slightly mad at Eliza and Will for not admitting their feelings for each other and for obsessing over their problems so much. All in all I liked this book, but I didn't love it. It held my interest for the most part and had a surprising twist, but it's not one that will stand out in my memory.

Breathing Room By Leeana Tankersley

From the Back Cover

AN INVITATION TO BREATHE
Catastrophe or no catastrophe, if you are unhinged, disoriented, suffocating, or otherwise generally dragging, I'm inviting you to pull up a chair at this table . . .

Breathing Room is a beautiful release of self-condemnation, a discovery of the rest that comes when we offer ourselves some space to breathe. Vulnerable and winsome, Leeana Tankersley shows you how to stop beating yourself up, how to be radically on your own team, and how to truly experience grace. If you've been putting on a strong front and yet are secretly coming apart, you'll find in these pages a trusted friend.

"Leeana says out loud the things we all feel, and she says it with grace and eloquence. Reading these pages is like sitting with a friend."-- Shauna Niequist, author of Bread & Wine

"Leeana refuses to reach for easy answers, instead leading the reader on a journey of accepting our own humanity. Quite simply, this is one of the most thoughtful books I've read all year."-- Emily P. Freeman, author of A Million Little Ways

Amazon Discription Leeana Tankersley, like so many of us, began to feel overwhelmed by life. And like so many of us, she assumed she was struggling not because life is inherently difficult but because she was personally failing in some way. She knows firsthand what it is to bully yourself, to put yourself down for not being able to keep it all together, to compare yourself to others and find yourself lacking. But she's also discovered that all of the hurt and hostility and pain only add up to a life of holding your breath. What if we could exhale and let go?

Breathing Room
is her beautiful release of self-condemnation, her discovery of the rest that comes when we give ourselves some space to breathe. She draws readers in through shared experiences of perfectionism, jealousy, and striving and shows them how to let go, how to be radically on their own team, and how to experience the broad grace that Christ has offered all of us.

Anyone who has been trying to do it all, who has been putting on a strong front and yet secretly struggling, will find in Breathing Room both a trusted friend and a generous Savior.

My Take:

Im taking part in Revell Publishers blog tour for upcoming titles and this book caught my eye, probably because I was feeling down in the dumps at the time. But I was slightly disappointed. It didn't really live up to the back cover or what people were saying about it. God seems to take a secondary role, Tankersley does mention bible story's but does not quote actual scripture. Most of the time I felt I couldn't relate. I did like some parts though, such as her personal experiences I even had to laught at some of them. I really liked the chapter about prayer. I would recommend this book mainly to young or middle aged mothers.
